How to Skip Lines at Tokyo DisneySea & Disneyland: DPA & 40th Anniversary Pass Guide

Tokyo DisneySea and Tokyo Disneyland are known for having some of the longest wait times of any Disney parks, with popular rides reaching two to three hours. If you're searching for how to skip lines at Tokyo Disney using the FastPass system, it's important to know that things have changed.

FastPass is no longer available, but there are two new ways to skip the lines: Disney Premier Access (DPA) and the 40th Anniversary Priority Pass.

In this guide, I’ll walk you through exactly how these systems work, how to use them strategically, and which rides to prioritize so you can spend less time waiting in line and more time actually enjoying the parks.

What is the Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea Line Skipping System?

Unlike Disneyland California and Disney World, Tokyo Disneyland does not use a fast pass or multipass system. Instead, they use two different types of passes. These are the DPA (Disney Premier Access) and the 40th Anniversary Passes. They function in a very similar way, so if you are familiar with the Disney parks in California or Florida, you should catch on to this system pretty quickly. If not, this article will teach you everything you need to know!

DPA Passes (Disney Premier Access)

The DPA passes are available for purchase and allow you to book certain rides at a specific time slot, allowing you to use a special entrance and avoid waiting in the long standby line.

When Can You Book DPA & 40th Anniversary Passes?

Both DPA and 40th Anniversary Passes can only be booked once you've entered the park on the official Tokyo Disneyland App. This is why you see guests lining up so early to enter the parks. They are trying to make the most of their day by booking the most popular rides as early as possible.

You can hold both a DPA Pass and a 40th Anniversary Pass at the same time!

How Often Can You Book DPA & 40th Anniversary Passes?

  • DPA Passes can be booked once every hour or as soon as a pass is used, whichever comes first.
  • 40th Anniversary Passes once every 2-hours or as soon as a pass is used, whichever comes first.

To maximize your time at the parks, it's important to be ready to book your next pass as soon as they become available. To keep track, it's helpful to set an alarm on your phone so you don't have to constantly check the time.

How Do You Book the DPA & 40th Anniversary Passes

The Tokyo Disneyland & Tokyo DisneySea fast passes are booked using the Tokyo Disneyland App so you will need to have this downloaded on your phone. Once you open the app, click on the park you're visiting.

Then look under "My Plan" and you will see Disney Premier Access (DPA) and 40th Anniversary Priority Pass. Once you have entered the park, you will be able to click on these, and the available rides will show up with the return time that's available.

What Rides Should You Book First?

It's important to know that only a certain number of passes are available each day. Both DPA and 40th Anniversary Passes can run out. For this reason, you want to book the most popular rides first. Listed below are the most popular attractions at each park with the highest probability of selling out.

  • Tokyo Disneyland: Beauty and the Beast and Pooh's Honey Hunt
  • Tokyo DisneySea: Frozen and Soaring

Step by Step Strategy to Skip Lines

  1. First, arrive at the park and get in line 1 to 2-hours before opening
  2. Make sure all your guests' tickets are grouped together on the app so you can book everyone's passes together
  3. As soon as you enter the park, have your credit card ready so you can book and pay for your first DPA Pass.
  4. After booking your first rides, check the wait times on the app and start going on rides with the shortest waits.

Other DPA (Disney Premier Access) Passes

In addition to booking rides, you can also purchase DPA passes for several shows to guarantee a good spot without the need to line up or waste time waiting for shows.

Important Tips & Tricks

Here are some important tips & tricks to help you maximize your time and enjoy as many rides as possible.

  • Frozen often sells out by 9:30 am; however, check your app in the afternoon, as sometimes they re-release more times when a ride sells out.
  • DisneySea is a huge park. Try and schedule rides that are in the same area so you aren't walking back and forth.
  • Look for Single Rider Lines!!! At Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, almost no one seems to use these, and if you don't mind being split up, this is a great alternative to buying passes and getting on even more rides.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Here are some common mistakes that could cost you precious time and reduce the number of rides you get to enjoy during your trip.

  • Not setting an alarm so you are ready to book your next ride as soon as it becomes available.
  • Not refreshing the app: It's important to refresh your app, to see if new passes have been released.
  • Not arriving at the park early. If you arrive at the park late, you risk that your ride will be unavailable. This is most common for the ride Frozen, which sells out quickly.
