Island Vintage Coffee in Waikiki is a must visit for enjoying the best breakfast on the island. In fact, we loved them so much that we visited 4 times during our 7-day vacation. If you’re staying in Waikiki, you’ll find this popular breakfast and coffee spot in the heart of the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center and within walking distance of all the popular hotels in the area.
We stayed at The Sheraton Waikiki and were able to easily walk to Island Vintage Coffee. After our first visit, we were obsessed. We tried a handful of other places in Waikiki but continued to return over and over again. Here is why they should be added to your must-visit list.
Island Vintage Coffee
First, Island Vintage Coffee is an amazing spot to grab a variety of thoughtfully prepared coffees, Hawaiian breakfasts, and fresh poke bowls. Everything is health-conscious, made with fresh ingredients, locally sourced, and absolutely delicious.
Here’s a Pro-tip: If you visit Island Vintage Coffee for Breakfast, you’ll notice the line can get quite long. However, you can head right next door to their Island Vintage Wine Bar and order from the entire Island Vintage Coffee menu with plenty of seating.
Loco Moco
The Loco Moco is an incredibly popular Hawaiian breakfast staple. This dish typically features a large serving of fluffy white rice under a large beef hamburger patty. It is then topped with a fried egg and drenched in a ladle of brown gravy. The Loco Moco is the ultimate Hawaiian comfort food.
Island Vintage Coffee has a fantastic selection of must try Hawaiian dishes like the popular Loco Moco. However, the Loco Moco here is a step above the rest. While a typical Loco Moco is made with a ground burger patty, Island Vintage Coffee prepares this dish with large tender chunks of short rib. You can even order a keto, low-carb Loco Moco made with cauliflower rice. We were so impressed, we returned 3 more times to order their Loco Moco for breakfast!
Ube Bagel
If you’re looking for some Instagramable treats, Island Vintage Coffee also serves a popular Ube Breakfast bagel complete with bright purple Ube cream cheese. Ube is a sweet purple yam found throughout the island, and it has a delicious, mildly sweet, earthy flavor.
Acai Bowls and Fresh Fruit
When I visit Hawaii, I indulge in all the fresh fruit I can eat. One of the most popular items on the menu at Vintage Island Coffee is their colorful Acai Bowls and fresh papaya. For breakfast, you can order fresh papaya filled with yogurt, granola, and drizzled with homemade Ohia Lehua honey. The yogurt is completely unsweetened, but the island honey they use is so incredible that you’ll be bringing home a few jars.
The Ohia Lehua tree grows only in Hawaii. The bees gather Lehua blossom nectar from high-elevation forests on the slopes of Hawaii Island’s volcanoes. Lehua Honey has a light floral taste and silky texture
I even tried to recreate this once I got back to California, but the fresh fruit just does not compare to what they serve in Hawaii.
Poke Bowls
My favorite dish at Island Vintage Coffee was their poke bowls, especially the fresh crab poke bowl. I absolutely love crab legs, and this poke bowl was worth every penny. I ordered it twice during my 7-day vacation. The Crab Poke bowl was overflowing with large fresh chunks of wild-caught blue crab over white rice with avocado, seaweed, and masago.
My fiance ordered the traditional Shoyu Poke bowl, which was also incredibly fresh and delicious. Everyone who visits Hawaii should enjoy a delicious poke bowl at least once. If you aren’t a fan of raw fish, the crab bowl is the perfect alternative.
Drinks & Coffee
While staying in Waikiki I was surprised how difficult it was to find a good latte. Island Vintage Coffee easily has the best coffee and smoothies on Oahu. I highly recommend the Island Latte with flavors of macadamia and a hint of coconut.
For smoothies, you can never go wrong with the vibrant Acai Smoothie, but they are all fantastic. If you prefer more of a meal, you should go with their awesome Acai bowls. While enjoying my Loco Moco, I noticed almost everyone was leaving with an Acai bowl to go.
After our stay in Waikiki, the one thing we missed the most was our visit to Island Vintage Coffee and Island Vintage Wine Bar. We are hoping they will open a location in Southern California.
