The 10 Best Buc-ee’s Foods You Need to Try on Your Next Road Trip

The best Buc-ee’s foods are more than just snacks; they’re part of a very particular Southern road-trip tradition. If you’ve ever cruised down a highway in Texas or the Southeast, you already know the magnetic pull of the beaver sign. Buc-ee’s isn’t just a gas station. It’s a pilgrimage site for road trippers, food lovers, and anyone who’s ever wanted to see what happens when convenience-store culture goes supersized.

About Buc-ee’s

Buc-ee’s opened its first store in 1982 in Texas, and over the decades, it has grown into a regional legend. Today there are more than 50 locations, mostly across Texas but also in Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Mississippi, Colorado, and Kentucky.

The chain’s fame comes from a combination of Southern charm, a surprisingly adorable beaver mascot, aisles of quirky souvenirs, and, believe it or not, the cleanest restrooms you’ll ever encounter at a gas station. But the real reason people plan their entire road trip around a Buc-ee’s stop is the food.

Inside the massive stores, you’ll find fresh barbecue, in-house desserts, warm nuts, candy counters, and enough specialty snacks to make you invent errands just to go back.

Below are the 10 best things to eat at Buc-ee’s, all based on my own visits and the cravings that keep bringing me back.

The Best 10 Foods to Get at Buc-ee’s

1. Brisket Sandwich

Walk into any Buc-ee’s, make your way to the center of the store, and you’ll hear it before you see it. The brisket station is famous for the staff’s chant of “Brisket on the board!” every time a new slab hits the cutting table. When the sauce is poured, they shout again, “Sauce on the Brisket”, an oddly theatrical moment that somehow adds to the magic.

You can order your brisket chopped or sliced, and there are other sandwiches available (including smoked turkey and a three-meat option). But the brisket sandwich is the icon. It’s juicy, smoky, and the thing Buc-ee’s does best.

TIP: I recommend getting your brisket sliced, and you can also ask for a sample to taste before you buy!.

Beaver-Chips

2. Beaver Chips

Right next to the barbecue counter you’ll find Beaver Chips: Buc-ee’s extra-crispy, freshly fried potato chips. They’re warm, salty, and highly addictive. My dad swears they’re the best chips he’s ever had, and honestly, he might be right.

Bucees-Beaver-Nuggets

3. Beaver Nuggets

If Buc-ee’s has a flagship snack, it’s Beaver Nuggets. These puffed, caramel-coated, crunchy bites taste like brown-butter kettle corn crossed with a churro.

You’ll also find other flavors, like cinnamon sugar (think crème brûlée crackle) and white cheddar if you prefer something savory.

Bucees-Beef-Jerky

4. Beef Jerky

Jerky lovers, prepare yourselves. Buc-ee’s doesn’t just have a jerky section; it has a jerky wall, with flavors ranging from jalapeño to roasted garlic to sweet maple.

Pro Tip: For the freshest option, head to the back counter where they sell in-house jerky by the pound. It’s tender, flavorful, and worth every bite.

5. Specialty Meats to Take Home

One of my favorite Buc-ee’s discoveries is their frozen specialty meats, perfect for cooking at home. They offer incredible stuffed chicken options filled with Cajun rice, jambalaya, and even crawfish.

We live an hour away, and these still stay frozen until we get home. They make the easiest (and most delicious) weeknight dinner.

Bucees-Candy-Nuts

6. Warm Candied Nuts

The warm candied nuts are intoxicating. You’ll smell them before you see them. Almonds, cashews, pecans, take your pick. The cashews are my personal favorite, especially when they’re fresh out of the roaster in a warm cone.

Bucees-fudge

7. Fresh Fudge

Buc-ee’s fudge counter is impressive. There are classics, of course, but also fun flavors like Key lime pie, blueberry pecan, salted caramel, and even banana.

My dad always buys the variety pack, and I was shocked by how much I loved the banana fudge. The Key lime is his long-time favorite.

Bucees-Cinnamon-Roll

8. Cinnamon Rolls

The cinnamon rolls are huge, gooey, and generously glazed. You can order them with plain icing or with pecans on top. Either way, they taste like they were made in a real bakery, not in a convenience store the size of an airport terminal.

Bucees-Candy-Cosmic-Pops

9. Candy Section

The candy aisle at Buc-ee’s somehow tastes better than any other candy aisle. Maybe it’s the road-trip atmosphere, or maybe it’s the weird, wonderful finds. I recommend grabbing a bag of their Cosmic Pops, which are white-chocolate-coated Pop Rocks in numerous flavors that taste like a retro explosion of the 80s.

Bucees-Paddle-Tail

10. Paddle Tail

The Paddle Tail pastries are nearly as big as my head and absolutely delightful. Light, flaky, swirled with cinnamon, and drizzled with icing—they’re one of my must-grab items every visit.

Final Thoughts

So those are the 10 foods you absolutely need to try when visiting a Buc-ee’s. Every store has its own little quirks, but these items are the crowd favorites—and the ones that keep me planning my route around the next Buc-ee’s stop.

What’s your favorite Buc-ee’s treat? I’d love to hear your road-trip snack traditions in the comments.
