All the Best Bites From the New Taste of Boysenberry Festival!

Events, Knotts Berry Farm

Knotts Berry Farm is finally back open and bringing us their new Taste of Boysenberry Festival. I could not wait to attend and discover all the tasty treats they had to offer. There are so many food and drink offerings it’s easy to get lost. Here are some of my favorite Taste of Boysenberry Festival menu items to get you started. This year they have a variety of new items and brought back some of my personal favorites from previous years.

If you would rather just watch me eat my heart out, you can view all the indulgent shenanigans on my Taste of Boysenberry Festival Youtube Video. While you’re there, be sure to subscribe for videos of our foodie adventures and the recipes I whip up in my kitchen!

Taste-of-Boysenberry-elote

You Can Never Go Wrong With Boysenberry Elote

One of my absolute favorite menu items from the Knott’s Taste of Boysenberry Festival is their delicious Elote. Knotts Berry Farm almost always has a tasty variation of Elote as all of their events and I can never get enough. Who doesn’t love corn on the cob? Especially when its topped with crunchy toppings and cotija cheese. This item is always a must try on my list.

Who Doesn’t Love Tater Tots?

Another menu item that always seems to pop up on the Knotts Berry Farm food festival menu is Tater Tots. I love the Rueben Tater Tots from their previous event so I had to try the new Boysenberry Brisket Tater Tots topped with Crispy Jalapeño Chips and a Boysenberry Aioli Sauce (Sutter’s Grill). Those Jalapeño Chips were so tasty I could have just eaten a bag of them. The Boysenberry Brisket was fall off the bone tender and it was such a generous portion. Be sure to bring plenty of friends to share with!

Boysenberry Kimchi and Boa Buns Anyone?

Next, my girlfriend really wanted to try the Pork Bao Buns with a Boysenberry Kimchi and Nam Pla and I was more than happy to oblige. These are located at Sutter’s Grill where we also got the Tater Tots. I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty these were. Usually, Boa Buns are steamed and doughy, but the Boa Buns at the Knott’s Taste of Boysenberry Festival are actually crispy like they’ve been baked or even air fried. The texture was so nice, I kind of wish all Boa Buns came like this. The sweetness from the Boysenberry was actually a great accompaniment to the more sour fermented Kimchi. Definitely a great dish to try!

Boysenberry-Festival-Shrimp-Grits

You May Have Missed the Shrimp and Grits From Last Year

So last year the Knotts Boysenberry Festival was canceled because the pandemic hit. Our state shut down the weekend the Boysenberry Festival was supposed to begin. Fortunately, I was lucky enough to attend a media tasting about 2 weeks prior of all the new dishes. One of which was the Boysenberry Flavored Shrimp and Grits, found at Coasters Diner. These were my favorite tasting from the event so I was so excited that they made an appearance this year. The flavor of the sauce over the grits is really what shines, I don’t even need the shrimp!

Taste-of-Boysenberry-Festival-Tamale

My New Favorite Discover, The Chef Special Tamale with a Boysenberry Roja Sauce over Spanish Rice

Wow, was this Tamale delicious! I’m not quite sure what encouraged me to want to try the Tamale with Boysenberry Roja( at Fiesta Cantina), but I’m really glad I did. It was my favorite dish of the day. The Tamale is filled with chicken and covered in the tastiest Roja sauce. The edition of Spanish rice made this a complete meal. Thank goodness I was sharing with 3 people, though I’ll admit, I didn’t want to share this one.

Boysenberry-Beer-Cheese-Soup

Knott’s Stays on Trend With Their Cheesy Sourdough Bowl

Can we all just say that the Sourdough was the Food of the Year? If you head to the Whagon Wheel across from Ghostrider you’ll find the Beer Cheese Soup in a Bread Bowl with a Boysenberry Drizzle and Brown Butter Croutons. I would probably call this more of a cheese dip than a cheese soup. The best way to eat this is to have every break off pieces of the delicious sourdough bowl and dip it into the beer cheese.

Knotts-Boysenberry-Fun-Bun

Time For My Favorite Dessert, The Boysenberry Fun Bun

Knott’s Berry Farm always introduces a twist on their Fun Bun (Cinnamon Bun) and it’s one of my favorite desserts at the park. I first discovered their giant Cinnabon at the Knotts Berry Farm Falloween Food Festival and it was love at first bite. I know everyone usually goes for the funnel cake, but trust me these are even better. They are soft and gooey on the inside with a crisp on the outside, then covered in a layer of icing.. Hands down delicious!

Knotts-Berry-Farm-Funnel-Cake

Everyone’s Favorite Funnel Cake Has a New Twist This Year

This years funnel cake was very interesting and featured a Flavored Funnel Cake with Boysenberry Ice Cream, a Lemon Drizzle, and White Chocolate Sprinkles. The funnel cake was red velvet and vanilla, but what really stood out was the lemon drizzel. I wasn’t sure if it would work, but it was much tastier than I had expected. The trick with funnel cakes is you need to enjoy them fresh as soon as they come out!

What Else is on My List of Foods to Try From The Taste of Boysenberry Festival 2021 Menu

I love these festivals so much I usually try to go twice. It’s nearly impossible to try everything so I usually make a list of other foods to try on my second visit. Right now here is what I have my eyes on.

  • Boysenberry BBQ Meatloaf with Scalloped Potatoes (Boardwalk BBQ)
  • Boysenberry Iced Irish Cream Coffee Alcoholic (Charleston Circle Coffee)
  • Etouffee, Shrimp, and Boysenberry Sausage over Rice with Naan Bread (Fiesta Dog)
  • Boysenberry BBQ Beef Stew over Spanish Rice with a Biscuit (Charleston Circle Booth or Silver Bullet Booth)
  • Frozen Boysenberry Mai Tai at Cantina ( I saw someone with this and it looked amazing!)
  • Philly Cheese Fries with a Boysenberry Onion Topping (Papa Loca)
