Napa’s Inn on First can best be described as a charming gourmet bed and breakfast. In partnership with the Downtown Napa Association and the Do Napa website, I was recently able to take a brief trip up to Downtown Napa to explore this charming town. One of the highlights during my trip was my stay at the wonderful Inn on First.
Culinary Owners
The luxury bed and breakfast I stayed at is co-owned by Chef Jim Gunther who trained at the California Culinary Academy. He brings his love for cuisine to every guest with a one of a kind gourmet breakfast served each morning. It truly makes for a special experience. Not only are the rooms amazing, but you’ll start each day with a hot culinary breakfast that trumps most restaurants.
The Rooms
First, before we get into the amazing breakfast, let’s talk about their luxurious and spacious rooms. Napa’s Inn on First is far from your typical hotel. During my visit, I stayed in one of their fabulous garden suites. My room came complete with a fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and French doors which opened to my own personal garden patio.
The Jacuzzi Tub
I could not believe how open and spacious the rooms were. They even had a mini fridge with a bottle of Mumm Napa Champagne ready and waiting for me. You can see from the photos above that this bed and breakfast was exceptional and I took full advantage of the jacuzzi tub.
Nothing is more relaxing than hopping into a giant jacuzzi in your own private room with a nice bottle of wine from one of your favorite Napa Valley wineries.
Gourmet Breakfast at Napa’s Inn on First
When you enter the main house for breakfast you’ll see a place setting waiting at their large communal table. There is coffee and fresh orange juice waiting for all the guests. While Jim is preparing your hot breakfast, you can help yourself to fresh fruit, yogurt, house-made granola, and a different type of pastry baked each morning.
Unique Culinary Cuisine
A few minutes after your arrival, the owner Jim prepares a hot breakfast for each guest which changes every morning. His dishes are truly unique and delicious. The first morning Jim prepared a homemade buttermilk biscuit with prosciutto, melted petite basque cheese, with a berry chutney. It was absolutely delicious!
On the second morning, he prepared a Spaetzal, small German dumplings, which he used as a hash over scrambled eggs. It was served with freshly baked pretzel bread.
You can really taste Jim’s passion for cuisine in each bite. I always think you can tell when people truly love what they do and this is definitely the case with Jim and his partner. They treat each guest like family and you’ll feel right at home. I even brought home Jim’s cookbook with over 100 breakfast recipes.
